Here’s a health to Sally’s Little Black Book!

Hi, it’s me, the Old Millhouse again, blogger extraordinaire and the source of sumptuous five-star luxury accommodation.

Sally (my boss, AKA the owner) and I have perused her little black book and organised a number of special VIP experiences, available for our special guests.  And by special guests, I mean all of our guests – everyone who stays here can enjoy the special excursions and offers we have arranged with premium local businesses and venues.  And today, in case you haven’t guessed from the picture, I’m going to tell you about our local whisky distillery.

If you like a dram, or even if you don’t, we recommend that you take a wee break and discover the generous welcome that you’ll find at Glenkinchie, where they make a rare Lowland-style of whisky that is deliciously different from some of the more peaty Highland and Islay malts.

Situated in Pencaitland in East Lothian, not too far from the Old Millhouse, Glenkinchie is owned by the world-famous company of Johnnie Walker. Located in lovely gardens (a bit like the Old Millhouse!), the distillery uses traditional methods to produce a unique dram. Being a house, I don’t drink, but Sally, who has been known to have a gin and tonic occasionally, tells me that the experts say that Glenkinchie whisky evokes “fragrant flowers, dried cut grass, and nutty cereal.”

There are a number of different tours, to suit any budget, from a ‘Full-sensory tour and tutored whisky tasting’ to the ‘Ultimate Edinburgh Whisky Experience: Johnnie Walker and Glenkinchie.’ There is also a shop where you can stock up on a bottle (or two), plus the ‘Lowland Bar’ where you can relax with stunning cocktails, superb snifters and a soupçon of locally sourced Scottish cuisine.  And the good news is that by being a VIP guest at the Old Millhouse, we’ve arranged a discount on the normal prices!  Find out more by getting in touch with Sally on 07824 773 060 or email sally@oldmillhouse.co.uk
