There are 3.5 acres of a gardener’s paradise at The Old Millhouse, opening out as you come up the gravel drive to where the house sits up high.
The soothing sounds of the river make it hard to believe you’re mere miles from the city centre, and as you wander the woodland and banks of the South Esk, the wonderful variety of trees means birdsong is never far away. And depending on the season, the river bank is scattered with snowdrops, daffodils and bluebells.
The sweeping green lawns are perfect for a game of croquet or just relaxing with a book, while the terrace, which gets the evening sun and has a breathtaking view, is a lovely place to enjoy pre-dinner drinks. How about mixing a special cocktail – we love a Lavender Lady: local NB Gin, Cointreau, fresh lemon juice and a dash of lavender syrup. Best served in the early evening on the warm stone of a British country garden terrace!
Fishing can be arranged at just £25.00 per person, and the house is perfectly set up for a group of enthusiasts or friends who’d like to try their hand with a rod. The river is home to sea trout and even the occasional salmon and is a perfect place for beginners. We can arrange for a ghillie to spend a session teaching novices (must be over 14 years) – you never know, your stay at The Old Millhouse could be the start of a lifelong passion.
