The House Blog (written by a real house)

Hello again!

It’s me, the Old Millhouse in Midlothian.  If you were with me last time, I was telling you about my boss, Sally, and her trip to my cousin, Prestonfield House, for a charity auction for Marie Curie. I’m really pleased to tell you that it was a great success and raised over £135,000 for the wonderful work that Marie Curie does.

Today, it being nearly June, I’d like to tell you a bit more about what I’ve been doing recently. With lots of visitors coming and going I haven’t been standing still (well, I have, but you know what I mean) but in my quieter times I’ve been watching on maternalistically while the countryside around me blossoms into colour as spring morphs into summer.  I’m lucky (and Sally tells me so are the guests who come to visit us) because there are three and a half acres of what I believe humans call “idyllic countryside” around me – or what I call my gardens.  Not only that, but there is also a river, whose name is Esk (she’s quite placid and well behaved) flowing through our grounds.

My gardens consist of a very nice lawn (“perfectly manicured according to my website) and lots of trees (“lush green woodlands”) and there’s a water feature which humans call a spa and, oh, you need to come and see for yourself.

I know (because I sneak a look in the guest book when the boss is away), that all the people who do come to stay with Sally and me really like it because they write very nice things about me and my gardens.  If you’d like to find out what it’s like here, I’d love to see you.  I’m afraid that you’ll need to speak to the boss first as she is the person who arranges all that stuff – I’m just the glamorous assistant really – but as you’ll have gathered, she’s really helpful and kind.  Get in touch with Sally today and she’ll tell you lots more about me and hopefully we’ll meet soon.

Kindest regards

The Old Millhouse
