Why we were nominated for “Best Exclusive Use” in the Scottish Golf Tourism Awards
The annual Scottish Golf Tourism Awards exist to celebrate the outstanding achievements within the Scottish golf tourism industry by recognising the finest courses, hotels and experiences that have helped shape Scotland’s reputation as a world-class golfing destination. The awards’ ceremony takes place in Aberdeen on 20th March and we’re travelling to the event with fingers, toes and everything else crossed!
Why were we short-listed?
Well, that’s a good question. More specifically, if you’re reading this in, say, America, the question is really, “why would you and your golfing friends want to come to stay in an early 18th century Scottish house, albeit it one that has been fabulously restored to an exceptionally high standard, and use it as a base for their Scottish golfing adventure?”
Can we suggest that the answers are simple?
Firstly, the Old Millhouse has been reinvented as a top-end of the market, luxury home, conveniently located just outside Edinburgh and within easy reach of all the famous main central/east Scotland courses.
Secondly, we offer flexibility – you can use our chef to conjure up all your meals, or you can take advantage of our sumptuously large and magnificently equipped kitchen to create your own. We can offer a chauffeur to take you to any course within easy driving distance (Muirfield is only 19 miles away), or we can organise a helicopter to ferry you to the famous west coast links such as Prestwick (the home of the Open), Turnberry or Troon, or even to make the short hop (63 miles) to St Andrews.
Thirdly, there is seclusion the Old Millhouse offers. Although situated in the town of Dalkeith, you won’t notice it’s there. Bordered on one side by the river South Esk and surrounded by three acres of gardens and trees, it’s the most tranquil setting imaginable. At the rear of the house is a spa pool and at the side a large barbecue area with a huge BBQ and solid teak garden furniture. A few steps away are flower beds, with a profusion of shrubs and blooms. Deer and rabbits visit the garden and our own hens provide fresh eggs for breakfast.
Inside, everything is five-star. From the exceptional quality of the decoration and furnishing to the Hypnos beds (by Royal Appointment no less!) and the bespoke touches of antique furnishings, each room is an essay in luxury.
On the upper floors we have five, individually furnished double bedrooms, whilst on the ground floor there is the aforementioned huge kitchen, dining room/orangery, the Drawing Room, the leather-chaired snug bar and a large utility/washing/drying room for your golf clubs and clothes.
Put simply, the whole place exudes classic simplicity and elegance. But if you really want to find out, then why not come and stay here? Contact the host, Sally de Waard on +44 7824 773 060 or at sally@oldmilhouse.co.uk
