Flying from Edinburgh to Amsterdam with EasyJet | The Old Millhouse Scotland

Air travel really shouldn’t surprise me anymore – after all, my son’s father is an aviator. But my recent adventure to Amsterdam from Edinburgh with EasyJet was a delightful reminder of just how brilliant flying can be when done right.

The Easy Part

Edinburgh to Amsterdam was an absolute breeze. The Old Millhouse is only 20 minutes’ drive from the airport, and with fast-track parking, I was sitting in the departure lounge, latte in hand, before I knew it. A smooth flight later, I was wandering through one of my favourite cities. It’s remarkable, really – just an hour in the air and you’re somewhere completely different, soaking up new sights, sounds, and culture.

Storm Amy Crashes the Party

The real test came on my return journey. The EasyJet pilots’ skill were put to the ultimate test as Storm Amy decided to throw everything she had at us. The Captain’s PA announcement was refreshingly honest: “It’s going to be bumpy” Storm Amy had been dominating the news with warnings of fierce winds, and we were about to experience them firsthand.

An eerie quiet settled over the cabin. With only an hour’s flight time ahead, we didn’t have long to wait before Storm Amy showed us what she was made of. The pilots navigated us safely into Edinburgh to a thunderous round of applause from one very, very relieved bunch of passengers.

I could see even the cabin crew exhale with relief once we were safely on the ground – though, being the professionals they are, they were already preparing for their next departure.

Home Sweet Home

The Old Mill House

The Old Mill House

Less than an hour after touching down, I was back home with a cup of tea by my wood burner, listening to Storm Amy doing her thing outside where she belonged.

But I digress! My original thought when starting this blog was simply this: isn’t it amazing how easily we can transport ourselves to entirely different environments? Whether it’s a beautiful city break or a sunshine escape, the magic of travel never gets old.

And speaking of escapes , The Old Millhouse  is just perfect to experience the wonders of Scottish hospitality and  the perfect base for your own Scottish adventures, minus the storm drama!
