Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness
Hi there, it’s me, the Old Millhouse here again.
My fans have been complaining that I haven’t written anything for a month or so. It’s hard, because Sally, the boss, always hogs the typewriter (actually, it’s a computer keyboard) and I need her to do the actual typing. As I may have mentioned, houses can’t type, so we use this chatterbot thingy and it seems to work quite well…
Anyway, I’ve had a great summer. Lots of nice guests, which keeps me (and Sally) occupied. Everyone seems to have had a great time and many of them wrote nice things about us in our visitors’ book. Yes, I know, it was a tad wet at times recently, but now the autumn is here we’ve had a week of quite nice sunshine. It’s one of my favourite times of the year and Keats’ famous poem always makes me smile. He wrote it in 1820, which means that it’s quite young compared to me (born/built in 1703), and the first stanza conjures up such wonderful imagery (you didn’t think a house could be this intellectual, did you?).
Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness,
Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun;
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;
To bend with apples the moss’d cottage-trees,
And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core;
To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells
With a sweet kernel; to set budding more,
And still more, later flowers for the bees,
Until they think warm days will never cease,
Well, I like it. While we don’t have hazel shells and gourds in the gardens, we do have a heated spa and flowers for the bees and, despite the rather inclement summer, lots of lovely, sunny days for our guests to enjoy. Sally and I are now planning for next year, so if you’re looking for a high-quality spot for peace and quiet, conveniently located close to Edinburgh, lots of amenities, golf courses, nature walks, restaurants, bars and cafes, you know where to come. And you don’t need to wait until Autumn (lovely as it is) to do it. In fact, you can start now, by calling Sally on 07824 773 060 or email sally@oldmillhouse.co.uk
Ciao for now!
